Moms are beautiful vessels of life because they bring life into the world in the form of children. But their life-giving superpowers don’t stop there! Moms are also vessels of life because of the words of life they speak to their children.
Their words can comfort in times of grief and inspire in times of doubt. At their best, moms use their words to build us up when the world has taken its best shot to tear us down. Even their chastising words can motivate us to get our lives back on track. As a kid, when I felt too tired to do my chores, my mom’s verbal reprimand quickly brought me to life and caused me to get the job done (or be punished!).
As a mother, I am often reminded of the power of my words and how they impact my children. Their faces light up when I tell them “I’m proud of you!” or “I love you!”. I also see their tearful expressions when I express my disappointment in a poor choice they’ve made. When this happens, I hope my words motivate them to make better choices in the future.
Being a mom is one of the most amazing privileges on earth!
Having your heartbeat (your child) walking around on the outside of you is both humbling and breathtaking. I hope my words of encouragement and instruction stick with them. Based on my mom’s echo in my mind, I think they will.
