When it comes to submitting to authority, my son is my complicit side while my daughter is the defiant side. I learn my best lessons from her:
Today was the perfect day for making pancakes. So after we finished reading in bed for a little bit, I announced my plan: dadcakes! Maiyah mumbled something about wanting #EggoWaffles because they’re easier to cut but I figured she would get over it once the goodness filled her nostrils.
Once there were enough #pancakes for them to eat, I called them to the table. After acting like she couldn’t hear me at first, she found her way into the kitchen. I had just flipped over a few more dadcakes when she got my attention and pointed to the toaster. This chick had put two Eggos into the toaster! She preferred a frozen pre-made breakfast over freshly prepared pancakes… simply because the latter would require more work for her to enjoy what surmounts to a superior breakfast.
When I questioned her about her choice, the moment I told her that choosing the Eggos over my pancakes was actually disrespectful – you know what happened, right? God very quickly flipped the script on me:
You disrespect Me every time you choose an inferior “thing” (one that is quicker to get yet not as rich in favor/flavor; one that requires less work versus what I will give you that benefits you more) to what #IAm preparing for you.
My daughter strikes again! I’m learning so much (about myself and my Daddy in heaven) from these children God has blessed me with… make sure you are, too!
