And the #1 Sin Is…

TO BE FEATURED in MANU FORTI MINISTRIES’ NEWEST BOOK RELEASE FOR 2021:
On My Post:  Recollections of a Social Media Maverick:  VOLUME II  (as published through Water2Wine Press Publishing House)

If you were to take a poll amongst Christians and non-Christians alike asking what the #1 sin is – what would that pool indicate?  By in large, that pool would reflect the personal convictions of the collective individuals.  But sin is not something that sinners have a say in ranking, is it?  Sin can only be determined by the sinless.  There is only one standard to measure against sin which is neither warped to persecute others or promote xenophobia, conveniently shaped around personal indiscretions, rationalized to account for shortcomings  nor used to excuse personal choices/lifestyles.

So, what is the #1 sin?

Conservatives may say that it’s a close tie between homosexuality and abortion.  While Romans 1:24-28 goes into the origin of homosexuality – born out of an epidemic of lust in the hearts of the recently converted Gentiles, it is not specifically ranked in the Bible.

The argument that abortion somehow ranks higher is linked to the “Thou shalt not kill” commandment.  But this arguably falls flat because that would mean that every soldier that is sent to war has committed the #1 sin in his/her service or “civic duty” – being that they are recruited and trained to abort life.  The commandment doesn’t say “thou shalt not kill a life whilst it is in the womb” – it reads “Thou shalt not kill”… period.  Further still, we tend to read the commandments entirely out of context, anyway.  The 10 Commandments were cultural rules utilized to create a society that operated uniquely relative to neighboring people groups.  In short, when the 6th commandment says “Thou shalt not kill” – it is literally speaking of an Israelite killing a fellow Israelite.  Literally, do no harm to your neighbor whom you share a common covenant with; people outside of Hebrew culture (and thus, the “un-chosen” of God) could die by the sword at the drop of a dime in war time.  But I digress…

Getting back on track, this brings us to Roman Catholics who will assert that suicide, as an extension of killing someone, is an instant ticket to hell because you cannot ask for forgiveness after murdering yourself.  This is completely unfounded as there are no scriptural references for this AT ALL.  Thus, this is a man-made law that holds absolutely no water.

I once had a conversation with a young brother where the topic of sin ranking came up and the Holy Spirit dropped the following into my heart to relay to him:

Humanity tends to quantify things – it’s our way of understanding by categorizing and prioritizing.  So as we look at sin, we tend to view it from the ground level.  Each of us places a certain weight on sin and we stack that in a person’s life – using our own lives often to measure the amount of another on a relative yet skewed scale.

For the sake of argument, let’s envision sin as a disc-shaped puck.  As we measure a person by their sins, the stack gets taller and taller until it looms over head. Maybe ours comes only to our waistlines while others’ tend to be taller.  No matter – the others’ will do the same to us and rank us in the opposite fashion; as such, it balances out.

But God… well, God sits on high.  He looks down on us (not in a condescending way) and sees our sin stacks as He watches over us.  From His vantage, the sin stacks all look the same.  No matter how high they appear to us, He only sees the circumference of the one disc.  Sin is sin.  There is no ranking or sliding scale with the Lord – only with the backsliders… only with us.

This does not mean though, that we are not called to judge for Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:3 “Know ye not that we shall judge angels?  How much more things that pertain to this life?”  What we must do in order to judge is get our house in order first.  The scales that we misuse on one another is what I believe Jesus refers to in Matthew 7:3-5 when He spoke of first removing the mote/beam in one’s eye so that you can see clearly to remove the speck in another’s.  Jesus was on the ground level.  He could see things as we saw them – but more importantly, He saw through them.

Removing the Scales of Blind Justice

Jesus removed scales
From the eyes of the blind for
Justice to be served.

‘And Ananias went his way and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.  And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.’ – Acts 9:17-18

Yet and still, several things were to be accomplished in Jesus’ ministry while on earth.  One of those goals was to prepare us to enter into and advance the Kingdom of God on a global scale by way of ushering in the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is our connection to the Holy King.  If Jesus is the one doorway into the Kingdom, the Holy Spirit is the governing agent that grants us passageway through that door.  As such, there is one sin that the infallible scriptures tells us is unforgivable which is blasphemy, translated as evil speaking, against the Holy Spirit:

‘Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.’ – Matthew 12:31

God loves us and wants to redeem the wayward children of the Adamic race back into the fold of His spiritual family.  This means we need a spiritual passport, if you will.  This is His number one priority – to be in a relationship with us.  This is what Jesus reestablished for us by blotting out our sins so that the Holy Spirit could be indwelt within our purged temples – renewed in holiness for Its sanctuary by the blood of Christ.

As such, anyone who falsely accuses the Holy Spirit is essentially discrediting Its ability to get us into the Kingdom and effectively cutting us off from God.  That is not His Will.  Speaking anything less of the power of the Holy Spirit is a lie – and John 8:44 tells us who the father of all lies is.  We know who the #1 sinner of all time is.  Don’t be deceived and seeded into the death that THE devil (from the Greek word for “accuser”) has already sown for himself.
